SUCCESS STORIES | St. Francis students receive awards
The following received awards during the annual President’s Awards Convocation at St. Francis University, Loretto:
Joseph Astleford, Johnstown: Wall Street Journal Student Achievement Award, presented to the senior management major with the highest cumulative quality-point average; Students in Free Enterprise Leadership Award, presented to an organization member who demonstrates outstanding leadership to the team and the university’s business administration department; and Armond A. Manfredi Award in business management, presented to a senior with a strong academic record, involvement in extracurricular activities and outstanding leadership.
Caitlin Basile and Heather Harteis, both of Johnstown: Father Albert Driesch/Avian Technologies Award for Excellence in Organic Chemistry, presented to chemistry majors who have completed organic chemistry I and II and performed excellently in those classes.
Jason Burkett, Mineral Point: 2008 Student Activities Organization Outstanding Service Award, presented to a senior whose involvement has helped to improve the organization, which is responsible for student entertainment.
Stephanie Dostal, Johnstown: 2008 Social Work Departmental Award, given to a senior social work major who exhibits outstanding scholarship and service to the community.
David Effinger, Cresson: 2008 Orientation Outstanding Service Award, given to a senior whose involvement has helped to improve the orientation process throughout the campus.
Tim Gaborek, Mineral Point: James W. and Helen Marie Lieb Award, presented to an individual based on scholarship, campus service, need and attitude toward mathematics and community.
Amber Haupt, Johnstown: John Orichosky Award, given to a physician assistant student who demonstrates strong humanitarian qualities, is involved in the university’s Student Physician Assistant Society and has maintained a minimum QPA of 3.0.
Brandon King, Johnstown: Music Departmental Award, presented to a senior music major who demonstrates creative growth, service to others and involvement in music.
Carly Scarton, Portage: 2008 Sociology Departmental Award, given to the senior sociology major who graduates with the highest QPA and participates in extracurricular activities.
Ashley Wingard, Sidman: Nursing Departmental Award, presented to a senior nursing major who demonstrates outstanding academic performance, highest clinical achievement and overall highest QPA.
Rebecca Wojtaszek, Hollsopple: 2008 Band Outstanding Service Award, presented to a senior who has participated in the university band and whose involvement has contributed to the organization.
