Duquesne senior is named to post

Sarah J. Brett, daughter of Joseph and Maryann Brett of the Riverside section of Stonycreek Township, has been named executive director of the Duquesne University Program Council.

She will oversee the campus board responsible for providing entertainment opportunities and a better quality of life for students on and off campus.

Brett also served as the programming chairwoman for the freshman orientation program.

She is a senior majoring in health management systems at Duquesne.

Central City resident receives bachelor’s

Tia Spontak, daughter of Skip and Paula Spontak of Central City, has graduated summa cum laude and received a bachelor’s degree in medical technology from West Virginia University’s School of Medicine.

Spontak will pursue a master’s degree in health science in the pathologists’ assistant program at the university.

Boswell resident earns doctorate

Marcie Koontz, daughter of Randy and Barbara Koontz of Boswell, has earned a doctor of optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Elkins Park, Montgomery County.

She received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Pitt-Johnstown.
