Authors to read for UPJ fall series

Two authors will present their works for the Fall Reading Series at Pitt-Johnstown.

The programs will be held at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21 and Nov. 12 in the University Room of the Living Learning Center at the Richland Township campus.

Jan Beatty, director of the creative writing program at Carlow University, will read from her latest book of poetry, “Red Sugar,” on Oct. 21.

Kevin Stewart, who is teaching at UPJ, will read from his collection of short stories, “The Way Things Always Happen Here,” on Nov. 12.

The readings are free and open to the public.

Nursing homes request donations for residents

Donations for Presents for Patients, a fundraiser for two Bethlen Communities homes in Ligonier, will be collected until Dec. 6.

A donation of $25 will sponsor a resident at Bethlen Home Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center or Ligonier Gardens Personal Care and Retirement Center.

A gift from a resident’s wish list will be purchased, wrapped and delivered on Christmas Day with the donor’s name on a card.

Donations of any amount are appreciated.

Checks should be made payable to Bethlen Home Activity Fund or Ligonier Gardens Activity Fund.
