Richland grad attending academy in N.Y.
Midshipman Patrick McQuaide, son of Rick McQuaide and Jackie McQuaide, both of Johnstown, recently participated in Acceptance Day ceremonies at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, N.Y.
The annual event marks the official acceptance of the freshmen, or plebe, class into the ranks of the academy’s regiment of midshipmen.
A graduate of Richland Senior High School, McQuaide was nominated to attend the academy by U.S. Rep. John Murtha, D-Johnstown.
IUP awards bachelor’s to Richland graduate
Sheena Marie Ricci, daughter of Martin and Deborah Ricci of Richland Township, has graduated summa cum laude from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.
Ricci, a 2003 graduate of Richland Senior High School, is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Kappa Delta Phi National Honor Society and Delta Epsilon Iota Honor Society.
Pitt-Johnstown crowns homecoming queen
Jenna Leigh Ricci, daughter of Martin and Deborah Ricci of Richland Township, has been crowned 2008 homecoming queen at Pitt-Johnstown.
Ricci, a secondary education – biology major at Pitt-Johnstown, is president of the Pitt-Johnstown cheerleaders, and a member of Sigma Alpha Pi National Honor Society, Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society and Beta Beta Beta National Honor Society.
She is a 2005 graduate of Richland Senior High School.
Honor society inducts Township graduate
James Carr III, son of James Sr. and Marsha Carr of Davidsville, has been selected for membership in Delta Epsilon Iota Academic Honor Society.
Delta Epsilon Iota was established to recognize and encourage academic excellence.
Carr, a graduate of Conemaugh Township Area High School, Davidsville, is a communications media major at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
He is expected to graduated in August 2010.
Collegians receive nursing degrees
The following have received nursing degrees at Somerset County campus of Allegany College of Maryland:
They are Phylicia Bingman, Berlin; Angel Butler, Imler; Jessica Carpenter and Kristie Carpenter, both of Stoystown; Beverly Haines, Jenners; Chelsy Osselburn and Channing Potter, both of Somerset; Casey Shaffer, Tonya Shuck and Bradee Snyder, all of Meyersdale; and Heather Smith, Windber.
