RELIGION IN BRIEF | Guest pastor at Ebensburg church

The Rev. Donald Rainey will be the guest speaker at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Ebensburg Christian Church, 405 W. High St.

He will speak on “Coming Home,” a first-person presentation of the Father and Prodigal Son.

An opportunity to receive Jesus will be given.

Christian concert at Faith Chapel

Good News will be in concert at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Faith Chapel Independent Baptist Church, 730 Sunberry St., Johnstown.

Westmont UM schedules conference

“From Johnstown to the World” will be the theme of the Westmont United Methodist Church’s Mission Conference held today and Sunday at 1428 Menoher Blvd., Johnstown.

Guest speakers will be Kathy Benyack and Jonathan and Wendy Evans.

Benyack is a graduate of Central Cambria High School, Ebensburg, and has ministered in Cambria County, the New York area and the Middle East.

She currently mentors those planning to go overseas as missionaries. She also works with Christar, which ministers to the least-reached in the world.

The Evanses have ministered in Turkey, China, Taiwan and India.

Jonathan, a 1985 graduate of Westmont Hilltop High School, lives in Taipei, where he is a linguist working for the Taiwanese government.

Breakfast will be held at 9 today, with Mr. Evans sharing about China’s devastating earthquake.

Dinner will be held at 5:30 today, where Mr. Evans will share about his work in India. Mrs. Evans will talk about her ministry with International Students Inc. in the evening.

Representatives of local groups and other missions will be represented.

Sunday school will begin at 9:30 a.m.

The worship service at 10:45 a.m. will feature Evans’ children, Zachary, Emily, Jeremy, Catherine and Isaac.

Roxbury pastor will preach from Mark

The Rev. Brian N. Simmons, pastor of Roxbury Church of the Brethren, 112 Sell St., Johnstown, will speak about “Sight Restored: Discipleship Began,” based on Mark 10: 46-52, during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service.

The Cathedral Choir will sing “Come On, Rejoice,” under the direction of Melanie Shiley and accompanied by Laura Krouse, pianist.

A singspiration, featuring choirs and soloists from several area Churches of the Brethren, will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday. An offering will be donated to Camp Harmony.

Refreshments and fellowship will follow in the social room.

Emmanuel men to sing in Nanty Glo

The men’s chorus from Emmanuel Baptist Church will sing at the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service at First Baptist Church, 995 Second St., Nanty Glo.

A pizza lunch will follow the service.

Shiloh Baptist will celebrate 92nd date

Shiloh Baptist Church, 639 Menoher Blvd., Johnstown, will celebrate its 92nd anniversary, during the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service.

Minister Jerome Tisinger will be the speaker, with his uncle, the Rev. Theodore Tisinger, who is senior pastor.

Dinner will be served following the service.

Masters of Nanty Glo in concert Sunday

Masters of Nanty Glo will perform a concert of southern Gospel music at 7 p.m. Sunday at Wesley United Methodist Church, Main and Church streets, South Fork.

Revival scheduled at the Lighthouse

The Lighthouse, Morning Star Ministries, Route 240, Cherry Tree, will host a revival, “Fire on the Mountain,” at 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.

Evangelist Chris Jackson from Branson, Mo., will be the speaker.

He and his wife will minster in the prophetic, revelation, healing and miracle ministry.

Kantner church will hold renewal services

Kantner United Methodist Church will hold spiritual renewal services at 7 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday, with New Wind leading the praise and worship.

The Rev. John Zimmerman will be the speaker. He is a graduate of North Star High School, Boswell, and attended Pitt for an undergraduate degree and obtained his master’s degree from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C.

Zimmerman is senior pastor of First United Methodist Church, Corry, Erie County.

A fellowship dinner will be provided each evening at 6.

St. Jude Triduum slated at St. Clement

A Triduum in honor of St. Jude will be celebrated at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at St. Clement Roman Catholic Church, 114 Lindberg Ave., Johnstown.

Abundant Life to hear evangelist

Abundant Life Ministry House of Prayer, 1067 Menoher Blvd., Johnstown, will hold a one-night fall revival at 7:15 Friday.

Evangelist Luanne Johnson of Trinity Church of God in Christ, McKeesport, Allegheny County, will be the revivalist.

Special services at Armagh UM Church

Roy and Janice Gearhart of Cutting Edge Ministries will be coming to Armagh United Methodist Church on Friday evening.

They will lead a Bible study during the morning of Oct. 31 and conduct an activity with the children in the afternoon.

The weekend will conclude with the worship service at 9 a.m. Nov. 1 and an evening service.

Bereavement seminar at Family Life Office

The Family Life Office of the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese is sponsoring a “Walking With Those Coping With Loss” workshop from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Family Life Office, 5379 Portage St., Lilly.

The workshop focuses on individuals, professionals, parish teams or volunteers who wish to reach out to those in grief.

Sister Marilyn Welch, CCW, will be the facilitator.

Cost is $30 and includes materials and lunch.

Registration deadline is Friday.
