SUCCESS STORIES | Beta Epsilon Omega inducts student

Brittney Corson, daughter of Pastor Ken Jr. and Karen Corson of Salix, has been inducted into Beta Epsilon Omega Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Pennsylvania Highlands Community College.

She is majoring in liberal arts/general studies.

6 named graduates of IUP’s culinary arts

Six residents have been named graduates of Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Academy of Culinary Arts:

Kristie Breyer, daughter of Davis and Sandra Breyer of Summerhill, is a 2007 graduate of Forest Hills High School. She will complete the baking and pastry arts program in the fall.

David M. Commons, son of David and Julie Commons of Hastings, is a 2007 graduate of Cambria Heights High School, Patton. He will complete his final externship at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Sheena Endress, daughter of Susan Cooper and Jim Endress Jr. of Windber, is a 2007 graduate of Windber Area High School. She will complete her final externship at the Broadmoor.

Shawn McGough, son of Ray Toney and Betty McGough of Mineral Point, is a 2007 graduate of Conemaugh Valley High School. He will complete his final externship at the Broadmoor.

Heather Mondi, daughter of Michael and Joyce Mondi of Carrolltown, is a 2007 graduate of Bishop Carroll High School. She will complete her final externship at the Broadmoor.

Megan Tataliba, daughter of John and Cathy Tataliba of Stoystown, is a 2006 graduate of North Star High School, Boswell. She will complete her final externship at the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Fla.

Sixth-grader is listed in Who’s Who Registry

Sarah Hess, a sixth-grader at Greater Johnstown Middle School, has been honored by Who’s Who Registry of Academic Excellence for outstanding academic achievement and extracurricular involvement.

Her name will appear in the edition of Who’s Who Among Registry of Academic Excellence.

Dickinson student studies abroad

Stacie Marie Smeal, daughter of Dr. William Smeal and Kathleen Steffish of Windber, has participated in Dickinson College’s study abroad program in Málaga, Spain.

She is a senior international business and management major at Dickinson.

Fire police association installs new officers

The Somerset Cambria County Fire Police Association has installed its new officers for 2009:

David L. Thomas of Oakland Volunteer Fire Department will serve as president and Ronald L. Gindlesperger Sr. of Conemaugh Township, vice president.

Leach Insurance Agency presented the annual Fire Police of the Year Award to Terry D. Phillips of Scalp Level Volunteer Fire Department.
