Westmont graduate earns master’s degree

Scott A. Goss, son of Jack and Arlene Goss of Upper Yoder Township, has earned a master’s degree in business administration from Shippensburg University.

In 2007, he received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Shippensburg, with a concentration in general management.

While at Shippensburg, Goss was a member of the baseball team and team captain for two seasons and a three-year member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was vice chairman.

He was a founding member and treasurer of the Entrepreneurship Association in the John L. Grove College of Business.

While pursuing a master’s degree, Goss served as a graduate assistant for support services for student-athletes, which included academic advising support, monitoring academic progress and assist student-athletes with developing goals for academic success.

He also served as a graduate assistant for the MBA program, which duties included assisting the dean and faculty within the MBA program and performing general managerial/office duties.

Goss also studied the business environment in Europe which took him to France, Belgium and the Czech Republic.

He is a 2002 graduate of Westmont Hilltop High School.

St. Francis junior receives scholarships

Rebecca A. Wojtaszek, daughter of Richard and Mary Ann Wojtaszek of Hollsopple, has received the Region VI Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees Scholarship for $750.

She also received the George F. Wheeling Memorial Scholarship, Clares Student Merit Award and General Education Study Abroad Scholarship.

Wojtaszek is a junior at St. Francis University, Loretto, where she is pursuing a degree in elementary and special education and minors in English literature and fine arts.

She is in the honors program and has a 4.0 grade-point average.

Wojtaszek is a member of Alpha Beta Beta Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education, music ministry, campus pep band, Somerset County Community Band, Student Athletic Leadership Council, SMART Program Tutor and Habitat for Humanity.

She also is resident assistant of Bach Family Honors House Student Government Association.

Senior is named commended student

Blake Michaels, a senior at Blacklick Valley High School, Nanty Glo, has been named a commended student for the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program.

He received a certificate of merit for his SAT score from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency.
