Arbutus

The Rev. Noah Martin, guest minister, will deliver the message “The Joy of Christmas,” with Scripture from Luke 1:46-55, during the 9:15 a.m. Sunday service at Arbutus Church of the Brethren, 1201 Erickson Drive, Johnstown.

Suzie Moss and Dave Jones will provide music. Dave Layman will serve as worship leader.

A party will follow the worship with Sunday school at 10:30.

Bakerton UM

The Rev. Linda C. Lacovic will lead a worship service at 9 a.m. Sunday at Bakerton United Methodist Church, 246 Lane and Sponsky Road, Elmora.

Sunday school will begin at 10.

Bethel UM

The Rev. Don Poole will share the message “Faith Challenges – Mary” during  the 8:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday worship services at Bethel United Methodist Church, 1021 Forest Hills Drive, Salix.

Win Garland will provide music.

Sunday school will begin at 9:45.

Youth RUSH has scheduled  caroling at 3 p.m.

Bethel UM

The Rev. Edward Patterson will deliver the sermon “Fulfilling a Prophecy: Jesus,” based on Micah 5:2-5a and Luke 1:46b-55, during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Bethel United Methodist Church, 215 Whistler St., Hollsopple.

Sunday school will begin at 9:15.

Beulah UM

The Rev. Jeffrey Popson will deliver the message “Surprise!” based on Luke 1:26-38, during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Beulah United Methodist Church, 716 Bedford St., Johnstown.

A contemporary service will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Sunday school will follow at 9:25.

Van transportation is available.

Centennial UM

Christ UM

The Rev. Kathleen Schoeneck will speak on “Joy,” based on Luke 1:39-45, during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Christ United Methodist Church, Ohio Street and Cypress Avenue in the Moxham section of Johnstown.

The senior choir will sing “Come Adore Him,” directed by Hariett Miller.

Beverly Rager will be the worship leader.

Helen MacDowell is the greeter.

Sunday school will follow at 10:45.

Community church

The Rev. Charles H. Zimmerman will deliver the message “It Is God’s Time To Act Including Everyone” during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Community Open Door Church, Menoher Boulevard and Luzerne Street, Johnstown.

Cindy Wilson will bring the children’s message.

Conemaugh church

The Rev. Horace Derr will present “A Message of Christmas,” with special music by Scott Ochenrider and Amelia Derr, during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Conemaugh Church of the Brethren, 1256 William Penn Ave., Johnstown.

Sunday school will begin at 9:30.

Christmas Eve service will be held at 7.

Conemaugh church

The Rev. Rick Horner will speak on “Shepherds and Angels” during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Conemaugh Grace Brethren Church, Second and Oak streets, East Conemaugh.

“Mary Did You Know,” a Christmas musical, will begin at 7 p.m. Monday.

Faith UM

A hymn sing of favorite Christmas carols will be held during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Faith United Methodist Church, 369 Glessner Road, Johnstown.

Ferndale UM

The Rev. Len Findley, pastor of Ferndale United Methodist Church, 701 Vickroy Ave., Johnstown, will deliver the message “A Different Christmas Carol,” with Scripture from Luke 1:39-45, during the 10:40 a.m. Sunday service.

The children of the church will provide special music, featuring several Christmas carols on the bells, directed by Julie Hendershot and Maggie Huffman.

Findley will sing “O Holy Night.”

Sally Rowe and Bette Weaver will be the greeters.

Sean Rappold will be the acolyte.

Fellowship will follow the service in the social room.

First Lutheran

The Rev. Eleanor Abarno will preach on Luke 1:39-55 and discuss “Visitation of Mary to Elizabeth and the Magnificat” at 5:30 tonight and 10:45 a.m. Sunday at First Lutheran Church, 415 Vine St., Johnstown.

First Presby

The Christmas cantata “Noel & Alleluia” will be sung during the 10:45 a.m. Sunday worship service at First Presbyterian Church, 1101 Somerset Ave., Windber.

First UM

The Rev. Larry Rowe will speak on “Promises, Promises, Promises,” with Scripture from Luke 1:26-38, during the 9:45 a.m. Sunday worship service at First United Methodist Church, 436 Vine St., Johnstown.

Following the service, the children will celebrate with a birthday party for Jesus.

Grace Brethren

The Rev. Rick Horner will speak on “The Messenger to Mary” during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Grace Brethren Church, Oak and Second streets, East Conemaugh.

Grove Avenue

The Rev. Ed Schoeneck will lead a contemporary worship service at 9 a.m. Sunday at Grove Avenue United Methodist Church, 501 Grove Ave. in the Moxham section of Johnstown. His message will be “I Believe in God,” taken from Mark 1:1-8.

A traditional service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Park Avenue United Methodist Church, where a Christmas cantata will be performed by the joint choirs of Grove Avenue and Park Avenue United Methodist churches.

Christmas Eve services will begin at 8 and 11.

Hastings UM

The Rev. Linda C. Lacovic will lead services at Hastings United Methodist Church, 162 Fourth Ave.

A praise service will be held at 6 tonight. A Sunday worship service will begin at 10:45 a.m.

Sunday school will begin at 9:30 and adult Bible study will be held at 2 p.m.

Youth Bible Club will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Holy Trinity

Worship services for Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 525 Main St., Berlin, will be held at 5:30 tonight and 8 and 10:40 a.m. Sunday.

The children’s Christmas program will be held during the 10:40 service.

Sunday school begins at 9:30.

Johnstown fellowship

Pastor Gary L. Tustin will speak about “What a Difference a Baby Can Make” during the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship services at Greater Johnstown Christian Fellowship, 3429 Elton Road.

Laurel Trinity

A worship service and youth program will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday at Laurel Trinity Lutheran Church, 7520 Somerset Pike, Jennerstown.

Sunday school will begin at 8:45 and the Boy Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.

Little Angels Daycare will be available from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

Bible study will be held at 8 a.m. Wednesday at Coal Miner’s Cafe in Jennerstown, followed by Knotty Women sewing at 9 and choir practice at 6 p.m.

Maple Spring

The Rev. Guy Myers will speak about “God’s Amazing Love,” with Scripture from John 1:6-14 and John 3:16, at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at Maple Spring Church of the Brethren, 106 Spring Road, Hollsopple.

Children’s church will be available for ages 4 through Grade 6.

Sunday school will begin at 9:40.

Kidz Klub and Sunday Nite Youth will meet from 6:30 to 8.

Mount Hope UM

“Lying in a Manger” will be the sermon for the 9 a.m. Sunday worship service at Mount Hope United Methodist Church, 258 Mount Hope Road, South Fork.

The Christmas cantata “Welcome to Our World” will be presented during the service.

Sunday school will begin at 10:30.

Moxham Brethren

The Rev. William Wenger will deliver the message “I Am the Lord’s Servant,” with Scripture readings from Isaiah 11:1-10, during the 10:10 a.m. Sunday worship service at Moxham Church of the Brethren, 536 Grove Ave., Johnstown.

Karen Spinos will read Luke 1:26-38, and will have story time with the children.

Nathan and Cindy Bailey will light the fourth Advent candle, Love.

The cathedral choir will sing “Carol of the Drum,” directed by Bette Poltrack.

Moxham Lutheran

Worship services with Holy Communion will be held at 8:15 and 11 a.m. Sunday at Moxham Lutheran Church, 500 Park Ave., Johnstown.

The Sunday school Nativity play will begin at 9:30.

Wednesday worship with Holy Communion will be held at 4 p.m. in the Good News Room.

Nanty Glo UM

A children’s program will be presented during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Nanty Glo United Methodist Church, Lloyd Street.

Park Avenue UM

The combined choirs of Grove Avenue United Methodist Church and Park Avenue United Methodist Church will present the Christmas cantata, “Christmas Bells,” during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service at the Park Avenue church, 700 Park Ave. in the Moxham section of Johnstown.

Jodi Hillegass will be the worship leader. Harvey and Dawna Hahl will be greeters.

Sunday school will begin at 9:15.

Patton Presby

A worship service will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday at Patton Presbyterian Church, Magee Avenue, followed by Sunday school at 10.

The Sunday school Christmas program will begin at 2 p.m.

Christmas caroling and a pizza party will be held at 6 tonight.

Roxbury church

The Rev. Brian Simmons, pastor of Roxbury Church of the Brethren, 112 Sell St.,        Johnstown, will speak on “For He Loves Us,” with Scripture from John 3:16, during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service.

The cathedral choir will sing its Christmas cantata, “The Christmas Song,” directed by Melanie Shiley, and accompanied by Laura Krouse, pianist, and Zeke Gaunt, narrator.

Sunday school will begin at 9:30.

The fourth Advent candle, Peace, will be lit with readings by Gary Scott and Sheri Mosholder and family.

An open house will be held at the church from 1 to 4 p.m.

Roxbury St. Paul’s

The Rev. Wayne D. Sedei will continue his Advent series “Songs for a Savior” with a message “The Songs of the Angels and Shepherds” based on Luke 2:8-20, during the 8 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship services at Roxbury St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 160 Derby St., Johnstown.

Sunday school will begin at 9:15.

St. John

Feast of the Lord’s Nativity will be held Monday through Dec. 30 at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, 427 First St., East Conemaugh.

The eve of the Feast of the Nativity, a strict fast day, will begin with a parish Christmas Eve holy supper at 6, followed by a singing of carols at 7:15 and vigil at 7:30.

The Feast of the Nativity of Christ will be held at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, followed by Divine Liturgy for the Nativity Feast at 9:30.

Diving Liturgy will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday for the second day of the Nativity and Feast of the Mother of God and at 9 a.m. Thursday for the third day of the Nativity and Feast of St. Stephen the first martyr.

St. Paul

The Rev. Bill Thwing will introduce a new Advent banner of “Love” and preach on “Signs of Love” during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 145 Ohio St., Johnstown.

Christmas Eve worship will begin at 7.

Second Presby

The Rev. Art Moffat Jr. will speak on “Wow! Then Come the Trials,” with Scripture readings from Matthew 1:18-25, during the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service at Second Presbyterian Church, 565 Park Ave. in the Moxham section of Johns-town.

The choir will sing “Sing Now the First Noel,” directed by Sarah Pruss.

Christmas Eve service will begin at 6:30.

Summit Chapel UM

The Rev. John H. Weaver, pastor of Summit Chapel United Methodist Church, 2142 William Penn Ave., Johnstown, will preach on “You Can Have My Room,” based on Luke 2:1-7, during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday service.

Music will be sung by Tom Pattison and Steve Gresh.

The Advent candle lighters will be Steve, Heather and Noah Price.

Trinity Lutheran

A Christmas program will be presented during the 9 a.m. Sunday service at Trinity Lutheran Church, 600 Ash St., Johnstown.

Refreshments will follow.

Walnut Grove

The Rev. Ron Barto will deliver the message “An Unwanted Gift: When God Messes Up Your Plans,” with Scripture from Luke 1:26-38, during the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service at Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren, 1068 Bedford St., Johnstown.

During the service, the fourth Advent candle will be lit. There will be special music and the choir will present “Arise.”

Sunday Blast and adult Sunday school will begin at 9.

Westmont UM

The Rev. Kevin Rea will preach on “A Special Gift for You” during the 10:45 a.m. Sunday worship service at Westmont United Methodist Church, 1428 Menoher Blvd., Johnstown. Sunday school will begin at 9:30.

Zion Lutheran

Liturgy of Holy Communion will be celebrated during the 10:15 a.m. Sunday worship service at Zion Lutheran Church, 613 Locust St., downtown Johnstown, with a Gospel reading from Luke 1:39-55.

Church school will begin at 9 with a time of fellowship at 9:30.

A Christmas pageant will be presented by the youth of the congregation at 6 p.m.
