Religion in brief | Mass to celebrate Pope Francis I

The Most Rev. Mark L. Bartchak, bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown, will celebrate a Mass at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel, Loretto, in celebration of the election of Pope Francis I.

Civil War service at Christ Victory

Christ Victory Church, 470 Buena Road, Manns Choice, Bedford County, will host a Civil War service at 10 a.m. Sunday in remembrance of the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address.

Chaplain Rene and Rommi Kinard of Freedom in Christ Ministries, Hanover, York County, will lead the service. Ralph Lincoln of Berlin will read the Gettysburg Address.

Revival services at Hooversville church

Hooversville Church of the Brethren, 195 Lohr St., will hold revival services at 7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Guest speaker will be Pastor Tim Vaughn, pastor of Beachdale Church of the Brethren.

Shiloh Baptist to honor pastor

Shiloh Baptist Church, 639 Menoher Blvd., will celebrate the 16th pastoral anniversary of the Rev. Theodore Tisinger Sr. on Sunday.

The Rev. George W. Bailey of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Altoona, will speak at the

11 a.m. service. A dinner will follow.

The Rev. John Hollins of Tabernacle Cosmopolitan Baptist Church, Pittsburgh, will be the guest speaker for the 4 p.m. anniversary service.

Abundant Life

Abundant Life Ministry, 707 Horner St., Johnstown, will hold its seventh annual Gospel Fest at 4 p.m. Sunday.

First Lutheran

Pastor Eleanor Abarno’s sermon will be based on John 12.

Adult classes will be held at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, 7 p.m. Tuesday and noon Thursday.

First Presbyterian

The Rev. Alice Tondora will speak on “Restoration and Protection Promised,” based on Isaiah 453:16-21, during the 10:45 a.m. Sunday worship service at First Presbyterian Church, 309 Lincoln St., Johnstown.

First Presbyterian

The Rev. Cynthia Cadenhead will deliver the sermon “Can We Love Too Much” at the 10:45 a.m. Sunday service at First Presbyterian Church, 1101 Somerset Ave., Windber.

Second Presbyterian
