Events | Good Friday commemorations

Various cross walks will be held in the area to commemorate Good Friday.

East Hills Ministerium’s procession of the cross will be held from noon to 3 p.m. today.

The procession will begin at Beulah United Methodist Church, 716 Bedford St., Johnstown, and end at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 1000 Scalp Ave. in Richland Township.

Other stops are at Homestead Avenue United Methodist Church, 101 Homestead Ave.; Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren, 1068 Bedford St.; Oakland United Methodist, 1504 Bedford St.; Little’s Beverage Distributor, 2202 Bedford St., for Belmont United Methodist, 107 Coldren St., Richland Township; and Bel-Air Plaza, 890 Scalp Ave., for Bethany United Methodist, 112 Leventry Road, and Arbutus Church of the Brethren, 1201 Erickson Drive, both in Richland Township.

“Bearing of the Cross: Walk in Christ’s Footsteps” will be presented by Greater Conemaugh Ministerium churches beginning at noon today.

The cross walk will begin at Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church, 217 Fourth St., where a blessing will be given, and end at St. John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Church, 427 First St.

Other participating churches include Church of the Transfiguration, 220 Oak St.; Conemaugh Church of the Brethren, 1256 William Penn Ave.; Conemaugh First United Methodist Church, 414 First St.; Fountain of Life Full Gospel Church, 225 Second St.; Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, 1421 Clapboard Run Road; Mount Sinai Institutional Baptist Church, 111 Cambria St.; St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church, 3513 William Penn Ave.; St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 1020 Caroline St., Nanty Glo; St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mundys Corner; Summit Chapel United Methodist Church, 2142 William Penn Ave.; Vinco Brethren Church, 123 Adams Ave., Mineral Point; and Nanty Glo Church of the Brethren, 915 Caroline St.

Windber Area Community Cross Walk will begin at noon today at Calvary United Methodist Church, 1800 Stockholm Ave., Windber.

Stops include St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church, 605 Graham Ave., and First Assembly of God, 505 12th St.

The walk will end at the gazebo on Graham Avenue, weather permitting, or return to Calvary United Methodist.

Forest Hills Ministerium will hold a cross walk beginning at 9 a.m. today at Sidman United Methodist Church, 1108 Mill Road.

The walk will end at First United Methodist Church, 500 Maple Ave., South Fork, where lunch will be served and a Good Friday service will be held from noon to 3, with pastors from churches in the ministerium speaking.

Easter events

“The Living Last Supper” will be presented by the church choir and drama team at 7 tonight at Oakland United Methodist Church, 1504 Bedford St., Johnstown.

Prayer and anointing will be offered after the service.
