The Christmas season will shine brightly at two area displays.
Overly’s Country Christmas will be on display Nov. 16 through Jan. 1 at Westmoreland Fairgrounds, Greensburg.
Holiday Lights on the Lake will be on display from 6 to 10 p.m. Nov. 22 through Jan. 6 at Lakemont Park, 700 Park Ave., Altoona.
Overly’s hours are 5:30 to 10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 5:30 to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
The dazzling holiday display boasts 2.4 million lights and covers 15 acres.
The power used to light the mammoth display, which has had a home at the fairgrounds since 1993, could turn on more than 100,000 100-watt bulbs at the same time and draws enough electricity to light a small community of homes with every light and electrical appliance turned on at the same time.
After going through the traditional drive-through section, visitors can stop at the parking lot and visit the five-acre lighted Christmas Village, where everything has a country theme.
The average time for a trip through the village is 50 to 90 minutes.
The village display is designed to resemble the miniature villages found under Christmas trees.
Hartman Station boasts the area’s largest display of G-gauge model trains and railroad memorabilia.
At the village’s Sweete Shoppe, a variety of homemade fudge and candies will be available.
Proceeds from visitors will be forwarded to Family Moments program, which benefits at-risk families that otherwise would not have the opportunity to enjoy the holiday at Overly’s.
Lakemont’s lights and animated displays cover 51 acres, and park staff have said it takes at least 30 minutes to view everything.
After a trip through the park, visitors can stop at Santa’s Village to get a photo taken with St. Nick, enjoy some refreshments and shop at the gift shop.
Next to the gift shop, the Alto Model Train Museum Association will have displays from 6 to 10 p.m. Nov. 22 to Jan. 1.
The display will consist of more than 800 feet of track, with O-gauge, S-gauge and HO layouts and 17 different trains operating.
Layout themes will include an amusement park, winter, summer, a race car track and small town.
Diamond Lane Carriage Service will provide carriage and wagon rides through the lights by reservation only on Dec. 18, 20, 26 and 27.
The cost is $65 for a carriage or sleigh, which seats up to four, and $175 for a wagon, which seats 16.
