Religion in brief | UM ministry to operate Love Tree



Roxbury church

The Rev. Brian Simmons, pastor of Roxbury Church of the Brethren, 112 Sell St., Johnstown, will speak on “Faith Under Trial,” with Scripture from Acts 25:13-27, during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service.

The cathedral choir will sing “Here I Am to Worship,” directed by Melanie Shiley and accompanied by Laura Krouse, pianist.

Simmons will lead a Bible study at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Choir practice will follow at 7.

Roxbury St. Paul’s

The Rev. Wayne D. Sedei will deliver the message “Christ the King,” based on Revelation         1:4-8, during the 8 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship services at Roxbury St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 160 Derby St., Johnstown.

Sunday school will begin at 9:15.

Second Presbyterian

The Rev. Art Moffat Jr. will speak on “Am I a Pretender or a Believer,” with Scripture readings from Matthew 24:35-39, during the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service at Second Presbyterian Church, 565 Park Ave. in the Moxham section of Johnstown.

The choir will sing “Rain Down,” directed by Sarah Pruss.

Summit Chapel UM

The Rev. John H. Weaver, pastor of Summit Chapel United Methodist Church, 2142 William Penn Ave., Johnstown, will preach on “Trustees of God’s Word,” based on Romans 3:21-26, during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday service.

Sunday school will begin at 10:30.

Melanie Dunbar will be the worship leader.

The chancel choir will sing “Soon and Very Soon,” directed by Dale Wicks.

Walnut Grove

The Rev. Ron Barto will deliver the message “What Is Christian Baptism?” with Scripture from Matthew 28:19-20, during the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service at Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren, 1068 Bedford St., Johnstown.

The service will include a baptism and an infant dedication service.

The choir will sing “O Cleansing Stream.”

Sunday Blast, for children ages 4-12, and adult Sunday school will begin at 9.

Westmont UM

Cheryl Adams, certified lay minister, will preach on “Promises From the Jesse Tree” during the 10:45 a.m. Sunday worship service at Westmont United Methodist Church, 1428 Menoher Blvd., Johnstown.

Larry Curtis will be the worship leader.

Sunday school will begin at 9:30.
