Religion in brief | Bishop McCort will sponsor Spanish Mass



Moxham Brethren

The Rev. William Wenger, pastor, will deliver the message “Prepare the Way,” with Scripture readings taken from Luke 3:1-18, at the 10:10 a.m. Sunday worship service at Moxham Church of the Brethren, 536 Grove Ave., Johnstown. Dave Shook will read the Old Testament Scripture from Malachi 3:1-4.

The cathedral choir will sing “Do You Hear What I Hear,” under the direction of Bette Poltrack, music director and organist.

The second Advent candle, Peace, will be lighted.

Sunday school will begin at 9.

Moxham Lutheran

The second Sunday in Advent will be celebrated with Holy Communion during the 8:15 and 10 a.m. Sunday at Moxham Lutheran Church, 500 Park Ave., Johnstown.

Sunday school will begin at 9:30.

Nursery will be available at the 11 a.m. service.

A women’s Bible study will be held at 6:45 p.m. Monday.

Wednesday worship services with Holy Communion will begin at 4 p.m.

Adult vespers/Holden prayer will begin at 7:15 p.m. Thursday.

Park Avenue UM

Park Avenue United Methodist Church in Johnstown, will host a cooperative joint service with Grove Avenue and Christ United Methodist churches at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

The Rev. Roy Gerheart will be the guest speaker.

A covered dish luncheon will follow the service.

Sunday school will begin at 9:15.

Roxbury Brethren

“Prepare the Way,” based on Malachi 3:1-4 and Luke 3:1-6, will be the sermon by the Rev. Brian Simmons, pastor of Roxbury Church of the Brethren, 112 Sell St., Johnstown, during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service.

The second Advent candle, Faith, will be lighted.

The choir will sing “Whisper! Whisper!” under the direction of Melanie Shiley, and accompanied by Laura Krouse, pianist.

Sunday school will begin at 9:30.

Christmas caroling to shut-ins will take place at 6 p.m. Monday.

Bible study will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesdays, following choir practice at 7.

Roxbury St. Paul’s

The Rev. Wayne D. Sedei will deliver the message “The Prophets’ Song,” based on Isaiah 11:1-9 and Micah 5: 2-4, during the 8 a.m. praise service and 10:30 a.m. worship service at Roxbury St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 160 Derby St., Johnstown.

Sunday school will begin at 9:15.
