Religion in brief | New pastor named to Calvary UM Church

JOHNSTOWN —

Bethany UM

Pastor Patricia Cleary will preach on “A God-Sized Table for a God-Shaped Dream,” based on Galatians 6:16, at the 9:30 a.m. Sunday service at Bethany United Methodist Church, 112 Leventry Road, Johnstown.

Vacation Bible school will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. July 14-18.

Beth Sholom

A Shabbat Matot/Masei morning service will be held at 9:30 today at Beth Sholom Congregation, 700 Indiana St., Johnstown.

On Friday, a Shabbat eve service will be held at 7:30 and candlelighting will take place at 8:28 p.m.

Beulah UM

The Rev. Jeffrey Popson will deliver the message “Why Did I do That?” with a reading from Romans 7:15-25a, during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Beulah United Methodist Church, 716 Bedford St., Johnstown.

Contemporary service will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Christ UM

The Rev. Kathleen Schoeneck will speak on “Wash Clean,” based on Mark 1:40-45, at the 9:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Christ United Methodist Church, Ohio Street and Cypress Avenue, Johnstown.

Community Church

An outdoor service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Community Open Door Church, Menoher Boulevard and Luzerne Street, Johnstown. Military personnel will be honored.

Pastor Charles H. Zimmerman will speak on “Jesus is The Light of The U.S.A.”

Conemaugh Church

Pastor Horace Derr will deliver the message “God’s Good Work,” with Scripture from Philippians 1:3-11, at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Conemaugh Church of the Brethren, 1256 William Penn Ave., Johnstown.

Vacation Bible school for children in preschool through Grade 5 will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Ebensburg UM

The congregation at Ebensburg United Methodist Church, 100 E. Highland Ave., will celebrate the appointment of Pastor J.R. Virgin to the church.

Traditional services are at 8 and 10:15 a.m., followed by a contemporary service at 11:30.

Elton Zion UM

Pastor Wayne Cleary will deliver the sermon “To Bring the Kingdom Near” at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service at Elton Zion United Methodist Church, 1089 Mount Airy Drive, Johnstown.
