'Asian Fusion' theme for SAMA's 35th annual gala

LORETTO — “Asian Fusion,” the 35th annual gala and largest fundraiser for Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Loretto, is scheduled for July 20 on the campus of St. Francis University, Loretto.

At the gala, guests will be greeted by colorful banners, hanging paper lights and 30-foot hand-painted silk kites.

There will be gourmet cuisine, live music, casino games and silent and live auctions, featuring artwork, decoupage, garden ornaments and original sculptures.

Gala co-chairpersons are Jim Cayce, Nancy Sheetz and Michael Strueber, all of Hollidaysburg, and Marian Morgan of Johnstown.

Cayce, Sheetz and Strueber were co-chairs of last year’s gala, which set an attendance record.

Cayce has been actively involved with the museum for the past 10 years and has served as chair or co-chair of the Altoona museum’s “The Art of Wine and Fashion” fundraiser five times.

Sheetz is a talented artist skilled in weaving, oil painting, decoupage and furniture design whose creations can be found at gala auctions.

Strueber was the founding director of SAMA and was instrumental in the development of the gala.

Morgan, a former public relations/membership coordinator with SAMA, previously co-chaired two galas.

Each co-chairperson also is active on the museum’s board of trustees.

Tickets for the gala are $175 per person, and reservations must be received by July 16.
