Area clergy get assignments


By RUTH RICE — The Most Rev. Joseph V. Adamec, bishop of the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown, has announced the following clergy assignments:

n The Rev. Peter Akinrinwoye Akin-Otiko of the Diocese of Ondo, Nigeria, has been appointed temporary parochial vicar of St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Bedford, until Aug. 31.

n Deacon Scott Q. Little has been appointed to diaconal service at Our Mother of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church, Westmont, and St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Brownstown.

n Deacon Robert D. Bailey has been appointed to diaconal service to the diocesan bishop as secretary to the bishop and episcopal master of ceremonies. He has been serving in these two capacities since March.

n The Rev. Gerard M. Connolly, TOR, has been appointed Catholic chaplain at the State Correctional Institution at Cresson with residence at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Rectory in Altoona.

n The Rev. Albert H. Ledoux, from parochial administrator of Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church in Beaverdale to pastor.

n The Rev. Brian R. Saylor, from parochial vicar at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona to diocesan director of vocations with residence at St. Michael the Archangel Rectory in Loretto. He will have responsibilities for the Gallitzin Chapel House and outdoor shrine of Our Lady of the Alleghenies.

n The Rev. Aron M. Maghsoudi has been appointed parochial vicar at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament and cathedral master of ceremonies.

n The Rev. David R. Rizzo, from parochial vicar at Our Mother of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church and St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, and sacramental minister at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown campus, to studies in canon law at the Catholic University in Washington, D.C.

n Monsignor Michael A. Becker, parochial vicar at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, Geistown, has been appointed sacramental minister at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown campus.

n The Rev. Joseph C. Nale, from hospital chaplain in Altoona with residence at Our Lady of Lourdes Rectory to parochial vicar at Our Mother of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church and St. Michael Roman Catholic Church.

n The Rev. Edward J. Sabo, TOR, from pastor of St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Johnstown, to hospital chaplain in Altoona with residence at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Rectory, Altoona.

n The Rev. Leo F. Arnone, from pastor of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church in Mount Union, Huntingdon County, to pastor of St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Johnstown.

n The Rev. Donald W. Dusza, pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, has been granted a leave for studies in Spanish from July 9 to Aug. 7.

n The Very Rev. James M. Dugan, VF, has been appointed temporary administrator of St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Bedford, from July 9 to Aug. 7. He will remain pastor of SS. Philip and James Roman Catholic Church, Meyersdale, and St. Gregory Roman Catholic Church, MacDonaldton, as well as dean of the Southern Deanery.

n The Rev. George D. Koharchik, from pastor of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Shade Gap, Huntingdon County, to pastor of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, Mount Union, Huntingdon County. He will continue as chaplain at the State Correctional Institution at Huntingdon and as pastor of St. Dismas Roman Catholic Church, Huntingdon.

n The Rev. Alan E. Thomas has been appointed pastor of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Shade Gap, and will continue as pastor of St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church, McConnellsburg, Fulton County.

n The Rev. George Jakopac from the Archdiocese of Baltimore, who has been on loan as parochial vicar at Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church, State College, Centre County, and as sacramental minister at Our Lady of the Mount Roman Catholic Church at the State Correctional Institution at Rockview, Centre County, has been recalled to service to the archdiocese.

n The Rev. Derek Fairman has been appointed parochial vicar at Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church, State College.

n The Rev. Charles C. Ugo has been appointed parochial vicar at Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church.

n The Rev. Valentine J. Bradley has been appointed parochial vicar at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Bellefonte, Centre County, and Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Roman Catholic Church, Penns Valley, Centre County, as well as sacramental minister at Our Lady of the Mount Roman Catholic Church at the State Correctional Institution at Rockview.
