Armagh UM to host gospel music festival

Armagh United Methodist Church, 570 E. Philadelphia St. Extension, will host a gospel music festival from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday and from 1 to 10 p.m. May 18.

Abundant Life

Evangelist Debra Bush will be the messenger at the 11 a.m. Sunday service at Abundant Life Ministry, 707 Horner St., Johnstown.

Arbutus church

Pastor John Eash will deliver the message “Right Place, Right Time,” with Scripture from Hebrews 11:23-27, during the 9:15 a.m. Sunday worship service at Arbutus Church of the Brethren, 1201 Erickson Drive, Johnstown. Sunday school will follow at 10:30.

Belmont UM

The Rev. Keith A. Dunn will deliver the message “The Lord’s Prayer,” with Scripture from John 17:20-26, during the 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. Sunday worship services at Belmont United Methodist Church,

107 Coldren St., Johnstown. Sunday school will begin at 9:30.

Beth Sholom

A Bemidbar morning service will be held at 9:30 today at Beth Sholom Congregation, 700 Indiana St., Johnstown.

A Shavuot service with Yizkor will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. A Shabbat eve service will be held at 7:30 Friday, followed by candlelighting at 8:08.

Bethel UM

Pastor Don Poole will share the message “Looking at the Right Side,” from Habakkuk 3:17-19, at the 8:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday services at Bethel United Methodist Church, 1021 Forest Hills Drive, Salix.

Christ UM

The Rev. Kathleen Schoeneck will speak on “The Risk of Witness” at the 9:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Christ United Methodist Church, Ohio Street and Cypress Avenue in the Moxham section of Johnstown. Sunday school will begin at 10:45.

Community church

Pastor Charles H. Zimmerman will speak on “How Special Is It To Be a Mother?” during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Community Open Door Church, Menoher Boulevard and Luzerne Street, Johnstown. Cindy Wilson will have the children’s message.

Conemaugh church

Pastor Horace Derr will deliver the message “Mothers,” with Scripture from John 19:26-27, during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Conemaugh Church of the Brethren, 1256 William Penn Ave., Johnstown. Sunday school will begin at 9:30.

Elton Zion UM

Lay speaker Rebecca Rusnak will deliver the sermon “Faith Builders” at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service at Elton Zion United Methodist Church, 1089 Mount Airy Drive, Johnstown. Sunday school and a staffed nursery will be available.

Faith UM

The Rev. Len Findley will share the message “Dear Mom,” with Scripture from John 17:20-26, at the 9:30 a.m. Sunday service at Faith United Methodist Church, 369 Glessner Road, Johnstown.

Ferndale UM

The Rev. Len Findley will deliver the message “Dear Mom,” with Scripture from John 17:20-26, at the 10:40 a.m. Sunday worship service at Ferndale United Methodist Church, 701 Vickroy Ave., Johnstown.

A mother/daughter dinner will be held at 6 p.m. Monday.

First Lutheran

A hymn sing will be held during Communion services at 5:30 tonight and 10:45 a.m. Sunday at First Lutheran Church, 415 Vine St., Johnstown. Pastor Eleanor Abarno will lead an adult class during the 9:30 a.m. learning hour.

First Presbyterian

The Rev. Bruce Cadenhead will preach on “Jesus Loves the Little Children,” with Scripture from Mark 10:13-16, at the 10:45 a.m. Sunday worship service at First Presbyterian Church, 309 Lincoln St., Johnstown.

First Presbyterian

The Rev. Cynthia Cadenhead will preach on “The Freeing Gospel” at the 10:45 a.m. Sunday service at First Presbyterian Church, 1101 Somerset Ave., Windber. Cadenhead will preach and celebrate Communion at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Presbyterian Home of Greater Johnstown, Goucher Street.

First UM

The Rev. Larry Rowe will deliver the message “A Mother’s Prayer,” with Scripture from John 19:25-30, at the 9:45 a.m. Sunday worship service at First United Methodist Church,

436 Vine St., Johnstown. Children’s Sunday school will follow children’s time and adult Sunday school will begin at 11.

Flood City

Mother’s Day services will be held at 9 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Flood City Church, 1723 Scalp Ave., Johnstown.

Breakfast will be provided for mothers arriving 30 minutes before each service.

Good Shepherd

Mother’s Day will be celebrated during the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 514 Shady Lane, Windber.

Adult Sunday school will begin at 8:45 a.m. Kid’s Sunday school will be held during worship.

Grace Brethren

The Rev. Rick Horner will speak on the need for mothers during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service at Grace Brethren Church, Oak and Second streets, East Conemaugh.

Grove Avenue UM

The Rev. Ed Schoeneck will deliver the message “Resurrected from Bondage” and Ginny Lunko will share her Resurrection story during Sunday services at Grove Avenue

United Methodist Church, 501 Grove Ave. in the Moxham section of Johnstown.

A contemporary worship service will begin at 9 a.m.

Adult Sunday school will begin at 9:15, youth Sunday school will begin at 9:30 and children’s church will begin at 10:45.

A traditional worship service will be held at 10:45.

Holy Trinity

Worship services for Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 525 Main St., Berlin, will be held at 8 and 10:40 a.m. Sunday, followed by Sunday school at 9:30. Pastor Nila Cogan will preside at the 10:40 a.m. service. Women’s Bible study will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Johnstown Fellowship

Pastor Jim Gay will deliver the sermon “The Spirit-Filled Woman” at the 8:30 a.m. Sunday service at Greater Johns-town Christian Fellowship, 3429 Elton Road.

Pastor Mike Lewis will deliver the sermon “Hanging by a Thread” at the 10:30 service.

Pastor Ed Berringer will teach the 9:30 Sunday school and 7 p.m. Wednesday Bible study, with youth and children’s classes at 7.

Lewis will hold a teaching at 6 tonight.

Laurel Trinity

The Rev. Traci Bowman will officiate during worship services with Communion at  8:45 and 11:15 a.m. Sunday at Laurel Trinity Lutheran Church, 7520 Somerset Pike, Jennerstown.

Sunday church school for all ages will begin at 10.

Bible study will be held at 8 a.m. Wednesday at Coal Miner’s Cafe.

Maple Spring

The Rev. Guy Myers will speak about “A Mother Who Dared to Dream Again,” with Scripture from 1 Samuel 1:10-20, at the 8:15 and 10:35 a.m. Sunday worship services at Maple Spring Church of the Brethren, 106 Spring Road, Hollsopple.

Children’s church will be available during the 10:35 service.

Sunday school will begin at 9:30. Kidz Klub will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Mount Calvary

Pastors Carol and Scott Custead will hold worship services at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 1000 Scalp Ave., Johnstown. Sunday school will begin at 9:15.

“Mary of Bethany” will be the topic of a Bible study at 7 p.m. Monday.

Mount Hope UM

The Rev. Jason McQueen will lead a worship service at 9 a.m. Sunday at Mount Hope United Methodist Church, 258 Mount Hope Road, South Fork.

Sunday school will begin at 10:30.

Bible study will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Moxham Brethren

Ascension Sunday will be observed during the 10:10 a.m. Sunday worship service at Moxham Church of the Brethren, 536 Grove Ave., Johnstown. The Rev. William Wenger will deliver the message “He Will Come Again” and Molly Spinos will read Scripture from Acts 1:1-11. Sunday school will begin at 9.

Moxham Lutheran

Holy Communion and First Communion will be celebrated during the 8:15 and 11 a.m. Sunday worship services at Moxham Lutheran Church, 500 Park Ave., Johnstown.

Sunday school will begin at 9:30 in the sanctuary.

Wednesday worship with Holy Communion will be held at 4 p.m. in the Good News Room.

Park Avenue UM

The Rev. Kathleen Schoeneck will speak on “The Risk of Witness” at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service at Park Avenue United Methodist Church, 700 Park Ave., Johnstown. Sunday school will begin at 9:15.

Pleasant Hill

The Rev. Antoinette Allen of Johnstown will speak during  the 11 a.m. Sunday service at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 205 Peelor St., Johnstown.

The Deaconess Ministry will hold a Mother’s Day Appreciation Tea and movie at

11 a.m. May 18.

Roxbury church

The Rev. Brian Simmons will  speak on “The Spirit Instructs and Admonishes,” based on Scripture from Nehemiah 9:20-31, during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Roxbury Church of the Brethren, 112 Sell St., Johnstown.

Sunday school will begin at 9:30.

Simmons will lead a Bible study on the Book of Titus at 7:15.

Roxbury St. Paul’s

The Rev. Wayne D. Sedei will deliver the message “Learning to Pray Like Jesus,” based on John 17:20-26, during the 8 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship services at Roxbury St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 160 Derby St., Johnstown. Sunday school will begin at 9:15.

Scalp Level Trinity

Second Presbyterian

South Fork UM

The Rev. Terry Trudgen will speak on “Children of God,” based on 1 John 3:1-3, during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at South Fork First United Methodist Church,

St. Paul’s United

A Mother’s Day worship service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 145 Ohio St., Johnstown.

The Rev. Bill Thwing will preach on “The Mother of Nations ... Laughs,” based on Genesis 18.

Summit Chapel UM

The Rev. John H. Weaver, pastor of Summit Chapel United Methodist Church, 2142 William Penn Ave., Johnstown, will preach on “16 and Pregnant,” based on the TV show of the same title, during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday service. Sunday school will begin at 10:30 for youth and adults.

Walnut Grove

The Rev. Ron Barto will deliver the message “The Proverbs Woman,” speaking from the book of Proverbs 31, at the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service at Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren, 1068 Bedford St., Johnstown. Sunday Blast and adult Sunday school will begin at 9.

Westmont UM

The Rev. Kevin Rea will preach on “Love Grows From Our Identity” during the 10:45 a.m. Sunday worship   service at Westmont United Methodist Church, 1428 Menoher Blvd., Johnstown. Sunday school will begin at 9:30.

Windber Calvary

The Rev. John Snyder will deliver the message “Who’s In/Who’s Out,” taken from Revelation 22:12-21, during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at Windber Calvary United Methodist Church, 1800 Stockholm Ave.

An innovative worship service will be held at 7 p.m. with the message “Nourishing,” based on Mark 6:30-44.

Zion Lutheran

Liturgy of Holy Communion will be celebrated during the 10:15 a.m. Sunday service at Zion Lutheran Church, 613 Locust St., downtown Johnstown, with a Gospel reading from John 17:20-26. A midweek Liturgy of Holy Communion will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. John’s Memorial Chapel.
