Virginia theater group to stage children's play at Arcadia in Windber

WINDBER — Not a creature was stirring, stockings were hung and the  children were nestled in their beds.

“ ’Twas the Night Before Christmas” will be presented by Theatre IV of Richmond, Va., at 2 p.m. Dec. 8 at Arcadia Theater, 1418 Graham Ave., Windber.

The children’s play, which is the last presentation of the year for the theater’s        Coal-ala Bear Series for Children, is geared toward children in kindergarten through Grade 5.

“It’s based on ‘A Visit from St. Nicholas’ by Clement C. Moore,” said Amy Moore, public relations director at Arcadia.

“The theater will be decorated for Christmas.”

According to tradition, Moore wrote the poem in 1822 as a Christmas present to his children.

In the play, the audience will visit the Moore household on the day before Christmas.

Moore is pressed for time and stressed because his daughter is sick, and he has not written the family’s annual Christmas poem.

With the spirit of Christmas in the air, the story takes a magical turn as the expression of a father’s love and the mysteries of Christmas unfold.

Some literary liberties taken include some singing mice and a visit from St. Nicholas at the end.

Actors will visit with the audience after the show, which should last one hour.
