Wrabley joining Dukes

With his parents, Ray and Sue Wrabley, in tow and a few quick strokes of a pen, Richland senior Chris Wrabley signed a letter of intent on Wednesday to play football at Duquesne University, which competes in Division I-AA.

“I’m pretty excited about it,” Wrabley said. “I applied to a few other places, but I was waiting on an acceptance letter from Duquesne and I got that over the weekend.

“I visited the campus and I loved the location and I knew it was a great school academically. As soon as I knew that playing football at Duquesne was an option, that boosted my opinion greatly.”

Also joining the senior wide receiver/ defensive back at the Richland High School Library was Rams football coach Brandon Bailey, who coached Wrabley throughout his varsity career.

Wrabley, a Richland Township resident, anchored Richland’s defensive backfield at corner and pulled down five interceptions last season, despite a majority of Richland’s opponents avoiding his side of the field when throwing the ball.

Neither Bailey nor Wrabley knew what the Dukes have planned for The Tribune-Democrat All-Area team honorable mention defensive back. Each noted that a decision will be made in the fall about his status.

“I hope to play either position at Duquesne,” Wrabley said. “All of my coaches (at Richland) were very motivational and I got a lot of playing time over the last two years, which helped out a lot.”

Bailey is positive that Wrabley’s contribution at the Pittsburgh school will be the same that went toward Richland during his stay.

“A lot of what Chris put into our program goes unnoticed,” Bailey said. “His commitment and leadership has really brought our program along and has benefited our program in recent years.”
