Seven Panthers declare intentions

CRESSON —
Seven Penn Cambria athletes have signed letters of intent to participate in collegiate athletics.
n Lindsay Malloy will play Division I volleyball at St. Francis. An all-state selection in 2005 and 2006, Malloy recorded 402 blocks and 1,174 kills in her career. She was named the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference’s MVP in 2005 and 2006 and was a member of the District 6 first team each of those seasons.
She is the daughter of Donald and Colleen Malloy of Gallitzin.
n Shawn McMahon plans to wrestle at St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, N.C. McMahon, a two-time District 6 placewinner, heads off to the Division II school after picking up 75 wins in three years with the Panthers.
He is the son of Paul and Kristine McMahon of Ebensburg.
n Paul Myers will wrestle at Pitt-Johnstown. A three-time regional qualifier and two-time state qualifier, Myers earned 93 wins in three years under coach Todd Niebauer.
He is the son of Don and Dana Myers of Cresson.
n Jon Burkhart, a 6-foot, 245-pound football player, has committed to Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology in Lancaster.
A two-way starter at offensive guard and defensive end, Burkhart was selected to The Tribune-Democrat’s All-Area team as a senior and was an LHAC all-star. He made 75 tackles and has been named to the Ken Lantzy Finest 40 All-Star Football Classic.
He is the son of Jeff and Melissa Burkhart of Lilly.
n Corey Merva plans to play football at Division III Washington & Jefferson College. A 6-foot, 230-pounder, who started at center and defensive end for the Panthers, Merva was an LHAC all-star and will play in the Lantzy game.
He is the son of Lee and Karen Merva of Cresson.
n Alex Strittmatter, who started at tailback and outside linebacker, will play at Marietta College, a Division III school in Ohio. Strittmatter averaged 6.1 yards a carry as a senior and made 38 tackles. He was selected to the Lazzer Lumber Football Classic.
He is the son of Joseph and Margaret Strittmatter of Ebensburg.
As previously reported in The Tribune-Democrat, Matt Holsberger has committed to play football at Slippery Rock University.
He is the son of Joe and Debbie Holsberger.
