What's in Johnstown's economic development kit?

— A look at the economic-development groups in Cambria County:

Alleghenies Chapter of SCORE is a group of volunteer business counselors who provide advice.

The Ben Franklin Technology Partners is an initiative of the state Department of Community and Economic Development and is funded by the Ben Franklin Technology Development Authority.

Ben Franklin Venture Investment Forum helps entrepreneurs access outside investment, provides essential management training, assists angel investment groups in organizing and provides linkages between investors and promising early-stage companies. It services a 32-county region.

Cambria County Career Link serves as the foundation of Cambria County’s Workforce Delivery System. It supports local and regional economic development by providing comprehensive market-driven employment, training, education and economic development services.

Cambria County Conservation and Recreation Authority establishes recreational opportunities and assists with the cleanup of coal mining polluted rivers.

Cambria County Industrial Development Authority is a conduit for low-interest government loans for businesses.

Cambria County Industrial Development Corp. owns and manages two industrial parks near Ebensburg (associated with the authority by the same name).

Catalyst Connection is an economic development and manufacturing consulting organization that serves to advance the performance of manufacturing companies in southwestern Pennsylvania.

Center for Global Competitiveness (St. Francis University) is part of the Small Business Development Center.

City of Johnstown Department of Economic and Community Development serves as the lead resource for businesses and investors considering new investment or growth expansion in the city.

Community Foundation for the Alleghenies works with donors to develop funds that benefit the community in the future.

Conemaugh Valley Conservancy promotes conservation and preservation of natural resources and encourages prudent land use in the Conemaugh-Kiski River Basin.

Cresson Area Chamber of Commerce is a membership organization serving Cresson area businesses.

Cresson Area Industrial Development Corp. is a conduit for state industrial development funds.

Discover Downtown Partnership is a nonprofit organization working on several initiatives focused on making downtown Johnstown a more inviting place to welcome and attract customers, businesses, residents and investors. The partnership is governed by an appointed board made up of key business people, professionals and other stakeholders in the downtown.

Ebensburg Area Business Commission, now the Ebensburg Main Street Partnership, is an 11-member board, appointed by Borough Council, that works to improve the economic vitality of Ebensburg’s business community.

Governor's Action Team is a single point of contact for businesses coming to state.

Greater Johnstown Keystone Innovation Zone Partnership fosters industry and academics collaborations to stimulate business.

Greater Johnstown Regional Partnership promotes city, county and regional projects to enhance economic development.

Greater Johnstown/Cambria County Chamber of Commerce works to stimulate and encourage an informed membership, to be the advocate of business and to form private/public partnerships to promote the health and growth of area business and the community.

Greater Johnstown/Cambria County Convention and Vistors Bureau promotes tourism and sponsors festivals.

Hastings Area Industrial Development Association provided funds to bring Miners Hospital and Golden Living Center HAIDA to town.

Johnstown-Cambria County Airport Authority operates the airport and related activities to expand business at and around the facility.

Johnstown Area Heritage Association promotes tourism associated with historical interest.

Johnstown Area Regional Industries is devoted to economic development by striving to understand businesses' needs and to meet the needs through its expertise.

Johnstown Industrial Development Corp. is a financial arm of JARI.

Johnstown Redevelopment Authority provides a variety of programs to administer and manage the elimination of blighted areas for residential, recreational, commercial and industrial opportunities.

Kernville Arts District is a city-operated program to attract qualified artists to the Kernville neighborhood.

Lift Johnstown is collaborative partnership working to implement plans to reinvent Johnstown as a vibrant small city.

Northern Cambria Business Alliance sees itself as the “go-to” entity for local, state and federal leaders.

Penn State Cooperative Extension connects Cambria County with Penn State University resources and experts.

Pennsylvania Angels Network says its mission is to improve the overall investment environment for investors, increase the number of investors and increase investment dollars in Pennsylvania and surrounding areas.

Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development runs the state’s economic-development programs.

Pennsylvania Innovation Partnership is a consortium of economic development and business agencies across the state.

Pennsylvania Technical Assistance Program provides technical assistance and information to help resolve specific technical questions or needs.

Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse provides capital investments and customized company formation and business growth services to the region’s life sciences enterprises.

Procurement Technical Assistance Center is part of JARI that helps connect businesses with the Department of Defense.

Redevelopment Authority of Cambria County administers the Community Development Block Grant Program for Cambria County and assists municipalities in the application and administration of various housing and community development programs.

Southern Alleghenies Planning and Development Commission is a nonprofit regional economic and community development organization serving Cambria, Somerst, Bedford, Blair, Fulton and Huntingdon counties. Workforce development is a specialty.

Southern Alleghenies Workforce Investment Board is associated with the Southern Alleghenies Planning and Development Commission.

St. Francis University Small Business Development Center considers itself a one-stop shop for business planning. It works confidentially with entrepreneurs to help their businesses maintain a competitive edge.

The Technology Collaborative is a Pittsburgh-based nonprofit organization focused on robotics, cyber-security and digital technology business development.

The Progress Fund supports economic development by lending needed capital and by providing technical assistance to underserved entrepreneurs in 40 counties in western and northern Pennsylvania, West Virginia, western Maryland, and southeastern Ohio.

USDA Rural Development Office provides financial support to improve the economy and quality of life in rural areas.

Young Professionals of the Alleghenies is a group of young professionals on a mission to enhance the lives of those in the Greater Alleghenies through volunteerism and activism.

    So, on Tuesday, the airport’s authority agreed to accept Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Bureau of Aviation grant money that already has been tentatively allocated.
