Shuster to address Tea Party Patriots

— In a wide-ranging presentation, U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster, R-Hollidaysburg, is expected to discuss taxes, the role of government, health care, the Second Amendment and other subjects when he meets with the Bedford County Tea Party Patriots on Thursday.

The event, with a speech and accompanying question-and-answer period, will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Bedford American Legion Post 113.

Shuster’s talk is open to local tea party members and any other interested citizens.

“I think it’s really important to all Bedford patriots,” said Kathy Noll, a member of the tea party’s board. “We have many questions regarding federal government. ... We just want to know what’s going on.”

Gretchen Gailey, Shuster’s communications director, said the congressman views his job as his constituents’ customer service representative to the federal government.

“The congressman wants folks to know what is going on in Washington and wants them to bring to his attention any issues or concerns they may have, so he can best represent their interests,” Gailey said.

Shuster first became the 9th district’s representative in 2001. He recently was selected to serve as chairman for the powerful House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
