Westmont man charged after police pursuit

JOHNSTOWN — A Westmont man was jailed after police said he brandished two knives, threatened to kill himself and then ran off when officers arrived.

Seth John Emory Ray, 18, of the 2200 block of Menoher Boulevard, was charged with reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, prohibited offensive weapons, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and two summary violations.

A criminal complaint filed by West Hills Regional  police said Ray was intoxicated when he pulled out two knives at his home on Monday. He threatened to kill himself when his mother confronted him after she overheard him trying to sell his sister’s laptop, police said.

Ray ran from the home across Sunshine Avenue toward Pitt Avenue Extension and into the woods. Police used a K-9 and thermal imaging camera to track him.

Officers found Ray near Millcreek Hollow Road in Upper Yoder Township. He was holding one of the knives, which he refused to drop.

Police said Ray dropped the knife after being shot with a stun gun.

Ray was arraigned Tuesday by on-call District Judge Michael Musulin of Johnstown and sent to the Cambria County Prison after failing to post

10 percent of $25,000 bond.

Police said Ray told them he never intended to harm himself and was just trying to scare his mother.
