The weeklong search for the person who allegedly stabbed a man inside a Johnstown public housing complex ended Friday when the suspect surrendered to police.
Anthony R. Edwards, 25, of the 100 block of Graywood Street in Johnstown, turned himself in to police at the Public Safety Building, city police Chief Craig Foust said.
Edwards is accused of stabbing Andrew Burd, who was found lying in a stairwell in Solomon Homes Building No. 2. The stabbing happened May 18, police said.
Burd’s girlfriend pulled the knife out of his abdomen and applied pressure until paramedics arrived, police said. Burd was taken to Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown where he had emergency surgery.
The hospital on Friday could provide no information on Burd.
Edwards was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.
He was arraigned by on-call District Judge Max Pavlovich of Richland Township and sent to the Cambria County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of $15,000 bond.
