It’s time to put on some bright clothes and get your dance moves on.
TNT Cardio Club will host its third annual Zumbathon from 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 1 to benefit the Light the Night Walk of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Greater Alleghenies chapter. The Zumbathon will be held at Greater Johnstown Career & Technology Center, 445 Schoolhouse Road, Richland Township.
Stephanie Allison, owner and operator of TNT Cardio Club and a licensed Zumba instructor, said she was on a team with co-workers who participated in the Light the Night Walk and they were looking for a different way to raise more money for the program.
The Zumbathon took off and in the past two years has raised more than $3,000. Last year it attracted around 70 participants.
“All proceeds stay local, so you’re supporting a great cause and getting a fun workout,” she said.
Zumba is a Latin-based rhythmic dance that incorporates fitness moves and upbeat music from around the world.
“I like to say it’s more like you’re at a wedding reception or night club than at a fitness class,” Allison said. “It’s designed so anybody can do it no matter your age or fitness level. ... It’s all about having a good time with friends and laughing at each other.”
Cost is $15 per person and includes a bottle of water and event T-shirt. There also will be a basket raffle.
Preregistration is suggested by Jan. 24 but walk-ins are welcome the day of the event.
