Accidents in Cambria and Bedford counties late Friday claimed the life of a Bedford County man and injured an Indiana County man.
A Saxton man was killed in a pickup truck accident around 8:47 p.m. Friday on Mosquito Hollow Road near the northeastern Bedford County community of Six Mile Run.
Rick W. Vanmeter, 57, was taken by helicopter to UPMC Altoona, where he was was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the accident, state police said.
Vanmeter was northbound when his truck failed to negotiate a sharp, left curve, went off the road and struck a tree, police said.
An Indiana County man was injured in a car-pedestrian accident around 10:20 p.m. Friday at Bigler Avenue and 24th Street in Northern Cambria.
The 55-year-old man from Alverda was taken to Conemaugh Miners Medical Center and then transferred to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, borough police said.
Police said the man was listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit on Saturday afternoon.
A state police accident reconstructionist from Greensburg was at the scene to help determine how the accident happened, police said.
The names of the pedestrian and operator of the car were not being released Saturday.
