Dog attack critically injures owner

ALTOONA — Authorities in central Pennsylvania say a man was critically injured in an attack by one of his dogs, which was then shot to death by police officers.

The (Altoona) Mirror (http://bit.ly/1qhqZae ) reports that the 42-year-old man was attacked just before noon Tuesday in Blair County’s Logan Township.

Chief Ron Heller said the mixed breed pit bull terrier-bulldog had the owner pinned to the ground and was “tearing him up.”

He said officers were unable to use a stun gun because the dog and victim were too close together, so they had to kill the animal with two shots.

The victim was flown to UPMC Pittsburgh in critical condition.

Heller said the attack remains under investigation. Animal control officers were called to take care of other dogs on the property.
