Shop offers ‘a little bit of everything’

JOHNSTOWN — New to You Consignment Store opened with a twofold mission.

The first goal, as with any business, is obvious: Make money.

But, equally important, owner Elissa Kiesel wants her shop to help people. Kiesel has established a program in which customers can receive a discount on small purchases by donating nonperishable food items that can then be given to local food pantries. She also hopes to start a partnership with the Humane Society of Cambria County.

“I want to give back to the community,” Kiesel said. “That’s kind of like why I’m here.”

Kiesel wants to keep prices low partially to benefit customers who live near the store in the Coopersdale section of Johnstown.

“With the neighborhood and the economy, not everybody can shop new,” Kiesel said.

The store offers a wide range of items from Steelers jerseys to refrigerators.

“We have a little bit of everything,” Kiesel said. “We have from clothing to furniture to kids stuff, appliances, everything. There isn’t anything that we really don’t take except like mattresses and things like that.”

The store itself owns part of the inventory. Other items are offered on consignment with no more than a 50-percent markup above the seller’s requested price. New to You Consignment Store opened in April at 500 Cooper Ave. Its phone number was recently changed to 254-4841.
