Man faces trial in assault on woman, spitting incident

PORTAGE — A man accused of assaulting a woman and then spitting in the face of a Portage police officer will answer criminal charges in Cambria County court.

Borough resident Paul Henry Anderson, 62, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Galen Decort.

In a criminal complaint, Portage police said they responded to a dispute between neighbors on Jefferson Avenue on June 4.

Anderson allegedly waved a knife at neighbors and threatened to kill one of them, police said.

He then grabbed a woman between her legs and smacked her rear end, police said.

Police said they were called minutes later to Conemaugh Avenue. Officers said they

found Anderson highly intoxicated and using racial slurs toward neighbors.

Anderson, of the 800 block of Jefferson Avenue, was in custody when he threatened to kill two officers and then spit at one of them, police said.

Anderson was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated harassment by a prisoner, indecent assault by force, reckless endangerment, terroristic threats, disorderly conduct and public drunkeness.

He is free on bond.
