Retail chain planning store in Hooversville

HOOVERSVILLE — Family Dollar will open a store here this fall.

Company officials confirmed Monday what a sign in town already teases: That planning is in the works for an 8,000-square-foot store on Barn Street.

“We think it will be a great location for us,”  Family Dollar spokeswoman Bryn Winburn said.

The North Carolina-based chain plans to hire eight to 10 employees for the store and will look to hire from within the Hooversville area, she said.

Family Dollar tries to locate its stores in small towns and neighborhoods – and in higher traffic areas people pass on their daily commutes, Winburn said.

“Our stores are neighborhood stores. It’s not uncommon for there to be ones within a few miles from each other,” she added. The company often places stores within walking distance of many homes.

“We try to put them places where people are coming and going from work,” Winburn added.

Family Dollar operates more than 7,000 locations nationwide, including about a dozen in Cambria and Somerset counties.

A grand opening date for the Hooversville store has not been finalized, she said.
