Alumni election, reform talk, await PSU trustees

STATE COLLEGE — Two Penn State trustees will learn today whether they'll remain on the school's governing board when alumni elections results are released.

The contentious election ends the same day that the board is slated to weigh changes to university governance.

The makeup and decisions of the board have been under scrutiny since November 2011, when the arrest of former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky on child sex abuse charges sparked a sweeping scandal.

The firing of Hall of Fame coach Joe Paterno and the board's handling of former FBI director Louis Freeh's scathing internal report into the scandal remain sore subjects for some alumni and former players.

Thirty-nine candidates were on the ballot in the race for three alumni seats, including incumbents Paul Suhey and Stephanie Deviney.
