Nanty Glo resident waives drug hearing

VINCO — A Nanty Glo man who was overcome by chemical fumes while unclogging his toilet will answer drug charges filed after police said they found marijuana plants inside his home.

Richard Scott Wiedenhoeft, 52, of the 400 block of Loraine Road, waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Monday before District Judge Mary Ann Zanghi of Vinco.

Wiedenhoeft was treated at Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown on Jan. 14 after inhaling drain cleaner.

Firefighters and police were unable to enter the home until the fumes dispersed. Once inside, they found the pot.

There was a “marijuana growing operation,” Jackson Township police Chief Phil Vaught said at the time.

Police seized 60 pot plants, several scales, growing lights, smoking pipes, potting soil, a large green plastic bag full of suspected marijuana and six bags of packaged marijuana.

Vaught said Wiedenhoeft was trying to unclog the toilet when he was overcome by fumes.

Wiedenhoeft is free on bond.
