New: Cambria County sets up veterans court

EBENSBURG — Cambria County has set up a veterans court with the goal of helping men and women who have served the nation when they get into trouble with the law. The program was unveiled this morning at a news conference at the county courthouse by President Judge Timothy Creany and District Attorney Kelly Callihan, who emphasized that the program is not a “get out of jail free” pass.

Rather, it’s a program of helping veterans who have diagnosed conditions, including post traumatic stress disorder, get mental and medical help along with mentoring by volunteers though the Veterans Community Initiatives.

More than two dozen people, including veterans, officeholders and representatives of vets groups and the Altoona VA Medical Center, attended the news conference.
