NEW | Bedford County man dies in car crash

An elderly Bedford County man died Sunday in a single vehicle crash on Interstate 99 in Kimmel Township.

Orville Ickes, 82, of Imler, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 1:50 p.m. crash of the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt.

State police at Bedford said Ickes was traveling south on the interstate when he was observed traveling at a high rate of speed and his driving was erratic.

He passed two vehicles along the west berm of the roadway then lost control, traveling into the east berm across both lanes of travel and off the roadway.

His car then struck an embankment on the median and rolled end over end. The vehicle came to rest on the left lane of the Interstate, south bound. Ickes was ejected from the vehicle.

The investigation continues.
