MEYERSDALE — State police in Somerset announced this morning that human remains were found in Somerset County.

According to a report, an individual walking in the woods in Larimer Township came across the remains and contacted state police.

Investigators who responded to the scene at 12:30 p.m. Sunday determined that the remains did appear to be human, although they were unable to determine gender or age.

Officers secured the scene and are awaiting forensic anthropologists to gather evidence later today.

A new conference has been scheduled for 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Somerset barracks. Until that time, the department will not release any additional information.
