Man charged in 2011 break-in
EBENSBURG – A Northern Cambria man was jailed Thursday, accused of breaking into a credit union in West Carroll Township two years ago. State police used DNA evidence to identify him, authorities said.
State police said Thomas K. Lighthill, 44, allegedly broke into GAP Credit Union, 387 Theatre Road, sometime between Sept. 23-24, 2011.
Troopers said Lighthill smashed the glass door and then damaged at ATM and security camera.
Troopers said they collected a blood sample from the concrete pad between the ATM and sent it to the crime lab in Greensburg in January 2012.
Investigators later received results of the DNA test and also retrieved still photos taken by the security camera.
Lighthill was charged with burglary, criminal trespass and criminal mischief.
He was arraigned by District Judge Galen Decort of Portage and sent to the Cambria County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of $25,000 bond.
Lighthill denied burglarizing the credit union, troopers said.
