SOMERSET — Ground was symbolically broken for a major U.S. Route 219 construction project on Tuesday morning.
The event took place where the current four-lane highway reaches a dead end in Somerset County. Dignitaries, including two congressmen - U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster, R-Hollidaysburg, and U.S. Rep. Keith Rothfus, R-Sewickley - participated in the festivities.
Building the limited-access, four-lane highway extension, connecting Meyersdale to Somerset, is expected to take five years to complete.
Wednesday’s editions of The Tribune-Democrat will have more on this story.
