Crash kills Boswell woman

LIGONIER — Use of a cellphone may have contributed to the crash that killed a Boswell woman early Saturday on Route 30.

Tiffany M. Wiedemann, 31, died following the one-vehicle accident that occurred just before 4 a.m. between Ligonier and Latrobe, Westmoreland County Coroner Kenneth A. Bacha said in a release.

Wiedemann was alone in a Pontiac Sunfire, traveling east on Route 30, about 5 miles west of Ligonier, when her car left the roadway and rolled over, Bacha said.

Wiedemann was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car, the coroner’s news release said, noting that “cellphone use is believed to have played a factor in the incident.”

She was transported to Excela Latrobe Hospital, where she was pronounced dead just after

5 a.m. The cause of death was blunt force trauma to the chest and abdomen, Bacha said. Wiedemann’s death was ruled accidental.

An autopsy will not be performed, but toxicology tests are being completed, the coroner said. Results will not be available for several weeks.

Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home, 476 W. Main St., Somerset, is in charge of arrangements.
