Free Thanksgiving papers offered

JOHNSTOWN — As the old saying goes, the early bird catches the worm.

To give people a jump-start on their Black Friday shopping, The Tribune-Democrat and CamTran have partnered to give away 1,000 free copies of the Thanksgiving day paper, the largest paper of the year, to area readers.

The promotion will run from 10 p.m. to midnight Wednesday. People can pick up their copy in front of The Tribune-Democrat building, 425 Locust St. in downtown Johns-town, and in the Boscov’s parking lot, directly across from Taco Bell, at The Galleria in Richland Township.

There is a four paper limit per car.

When the first 1,000 copies are gone, people will be able to purchase the paper for $2.

A limited number of papers will be avaliable in newspaper racks Thursday.

“The main reason we are doing this is because we believe Thanksgiving is an important family holiday and this allows families to stay home rather than worrying about getting out to get the paper,” said Julie Fox-Arnott, The Tribune-Democrat’s director of circulation. “It also allows people to plan out their Black Friday earlier and scope out what they want to do.”

Josh Yoder, director of marketing and planning at CamTran, said because the bus company is an integral part of the region it only seemed right to team up with The Tribune-Democrat to offer this service.

“I think people will be more than receptive to this,” he said. “In the short time since it’s been advertised in the newspaper I’ve been fielding multiple questions about it. People are excited and a lot of that has to do with sales ramping up earlier every year, so families can have their Thanksgiving dinner and then look through the ads to plan their excursion.”
