Homeless man charged with homicide attempt

A homeless man was charged with attempted homicide after police said he stabbed a man Friday at the Slovak Club in Windber.

Paint Township police said Aaron Gill, 27, stabbed a man three times in the back because the man owned him $155. The incident happened shortly after 8 p.m. at the club in the 1300 block of Jackson Avenue.

The stabbed man was taken to Windber Medical Center. Police said he told officers that he didn’t know Gill.

Police charged Gill with criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.

Gill was arraigned by on-call District Judge Susan Mankamyer of Boswell and sent to the Somerset County Jail after failing to post $100,000 bond.

Lawmaker plans town hall Thursday in Armagh

State Rep. Dave Reed, R-Indiana, has scheduled a town hall meeting for 6 p.m. Thursday in Armagh. It will be held at the Armagh & East Wheatfield Township Volunteer Fire Department hall at 12095 Route 56.

Free Tomahawks tickets available through JAHA

Free tickets to the Johnstown Tomahawks game against the Port Huron Fighting Falcons at 3 p.m. Sept. 15 are available to Johnstown Area Heritage Association members and anyone who purchases a ticket to see the Lake Street Dive summer concert at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Peoples Natural Gas Park.

The Tomahawks have provided the heritage association with 250 vouchers, which will be available while supplies last.

JAHA members and those who have bought tickets to the Lake Street Dive show can get up to four vouchers at the Heritage Discovery Center gift shop in Cambria City during normal business hours.

Vouchers can be redeemed at the War Memorial Arena box office from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and at noon on game day. The offer is subject to ticket availability, so vouchers should be redeemed early for best seating.

New company becomes Cat mine equipment dealer

CB Mining Inc., recently formed by the owners of Cleveland Brothers Equipment Co. Inc. and Caterpillar Global Mining LLC, finalized a transaction on Tuesday through which CB Mining acquired a portion of Cat Global Mining’s underground product distribution and support business.

CB Mining will become the authorized Cat dealer for underground mining products in central, western and northeastern Pennsylvania; northern West Virginia; and western Maryland.

About 80 employees will transition from Caterpillar Global Mining to CB Mining.

Cleveland Brothers, an authorized Caterpillar dealership with a location in the Somerset Industrial Park, will continue to provide sales and support for all     customers that own and operate surface mining products such as track-type-tractors, off-highway trucks, wheel loaders, track drills, hydraulic shovels and various other lines of equipment.
