Man struck, killed by train in Westmoreland County

JEANNETTE — A coroner has released the name of a western Pennsylvania man struck and killed by a freight train, but says toxicology tests and other investigation is needed to determine why it happened.

The Westmoreland County coroner says 34-year-old Brian Myers was killed Monday about 4:15 p.m. by a westbound Norfolk Southern train in Jeannette.

Jeannette police and railroad officials are also investigating the accident including why Myers was apparently crossing the tracks at that location when a pedestrian walkway was available about 1,000 feet away.

Myers died of severe head injuries.
