A Westmont man will answer for drug crimes in Cambria County, accused of selling heroin within a school zone, authorities said.
Shawn Varner, 26, of the 1000 block of Goucher Street, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Monday before District Judge Rick Varner of Salix. Shawn Varner is no relation to the judge.
The Cambria County Drug Task Force filed two criminal complaints against Varner.
In the first case, Varner allegedly sold an undisclosed quantity of heroin to a confidential informant on Nov. 19 outside a residence on Goucher Street.
In the second case, Varner on Nov. 26 allegedly sold heroin to a confidential informant within a school zone near Bishop McCort High School on Osborne Street.
Kevin Price, who heads the drug task force, said authorities seized 100 bags of heroin.
Because the drug deal happened within a school zone, it could add two more years to his sentence if Varner is convicted, Price said.
Varner faces felony and misdemeanor drug charges. He was returned to the Cambria County Prison, where he is being held on $100,000 percentage bond.
