CamTran awards more contracts

JOHNSTOWN — With site work already underway for CamTran’s new Maple Avenue operations center, the last major construction contracts were approved Friday.

During a special meeting of Cambria County Transit Authority, board members approved bids for electrical, fire protection, plumbing, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning.

Bob Biter Electrical Enterprises Inc. of Cresson was chosen to do the electrical work for $1,517,000.

S.A. Comunale Co. was successful bidder for the fire protection system at $245,950. Based in Akron, Ohio, Comunale has a facility at 518 Verla Drive near Windber.

Darr Construction of Berlin is the heating, ventilation and air conditioning contractor after board members accepted its $2,259,600 bid.

Pinnacle Plumbing and Heating of 112 Atlee St. in Ferndale received the plumbing contract for $915,000.

All bids were awarded pending review by the project manager and authority solicitor, said Chairman Ed Cernic Jr.

Some optional items are still being considered, Cernic said. Bidders were asked to include alternate bids for the extra features.

“We have alternate bids we are going over to see if any of those might be included somewhere else,” Cernic said. “We hope to act on those within the next week or two weeks.”

CamTran’s next regular board meeting is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. June 28 at its facility at 1226 N. Center St. outside Ebensburg.
