Motorcycle run honors memory of local biker

JOHNSTOWN — This motorcycle run is a memorial to a fallen Johnstown biker.

The third annual Memorial Bike Run in memory of Bryon McDermott will begin at

9:30 a.m. July 19 at Luciano’s & George’s Auto Body, 708 Eisenhower Blvd., Richland Township.

McDermott died July 24, 2011, when a car operated by a drunken driver collided with his motorcycle.

McDermott’s son, Bobby, who organized the run with some of his father’s friends, said the number of participants is growing every year.

“I sold about 100 T-shirts last year,” he said. “The run has the same stops every year, and there is no registration charge.”

The bike run will head out at 10 a.m., making stops at The Alley Sports Bar, 7648 Lincoln Highway, Central City; D’Hitching Post Bar & Restaurant, Main Street, Manns Choice; Mountaineer Sports Grille, 1310 Main St., Berlin; and Kings & Queens Restaurant & Pub, 4533 Lincoln Highway, Stoystown.

The final stop at 4 p.m. will be Jim & Jimmie’s Bar & Grille, 3900 Somerset Pike, in Conemaugh Township, Somerset County, where an after party will begin at 5.

A buffet will be available for $8 per person, and entertainment will be provided by One Way Society.

The band’s musical influences are mostly from the metal and punk genres of the 1980s and ’90s, but they also play music from the ’70s through today’s top hits.

The event will be held rain or shine.

T-shirts are available to purchase for $10 for adult small to extra large, $12 for XXL and $13 for XXXL.

The deadline for ordering is Thursday.
