Johnstown police identify victim in Saturday's Hornerstown shooting

TIRE HILL — Johnstown police have released the name of the Hornerstown man shot Saturday while wresting with another man who allegedly tried to rob him.

Nigel Beaton, 38, was shot one time in the hand and was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, police said.

City police Chief Craig Foust said Beaton is out of the hospital.

“He was released the same day,” Foust said.

Police said Stephen William Huger, 23, went into a Fronheiser Street home carrying a handgun and demanding money.

A struggle followed and Beaton was shot.

Beaton, though injured, was able to grab the gun and shoot Huger in the leg.

Police found Huger in the area of Oak Street.

Officers recovered a Ruger .40-caliber handgun.

Huger was treated and later released from Conemaugh.

He was charged with aggravated assault, robbery, reckless endangerment, illegally possessing a firearm and altering the serial number of a firearm.

Huger was arraigned Sunday by on-call District Judge Michael Zungali of Hastings and sent to the Cambria County Prison after failing to post 10 percent $250,000.
