City man shot gun outside Lorain Boro bar, police say

JOHNSTOWN — A Johnstown man was charged with reckless endangerment and other counts and taken into custody early Sunday after he fired a gunshot in a parking lot and then stashed his weapon inside a Lorain Borough bar, city police said.

Fernando G. Ramos, 32, of Franklin Street, fired a shot into the ground during an argument outside Jaimee’s Corner Pocket, Sgt. Pat Goggin said.

Goggin said it was not clear what sparked the argument but that Ramos was intoxicated.

“After he fired, he put the gun in his pants and ran into the bar and hid it in their kitchen,” Goggin said.

Ramos initially ran behind the bar but turned himself in to police without incident when they arrived, he added. Bar owners gave police permission to search for his weapon, a .380 Ruger, that was recovered, Goggin said.

The small handgun was registered in Ramos’ name, he added.

The Johnstown man was arraigned by District Judge Mary Ann Zanghi on reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and tampering with evidence, among other counts – and then jailed after failing to post 10 percent of his $50,000 bond.
