Firefighters battle structure fires in region

A house in Gallitzin was heavily damaged by a fire which broke out at 8:40 p.m. Sunday.

The fire in the two-story structure on Howell Street was brought under control by a half dozen volunteer fire companies.

A rekindle of the blaze required some of the fire companies to return to the scene at 3:09 a.m., a supervisor from Cambria County 911 dispatch said Monday.

As of mid-morning, the fire was extinguished and the fire companies were no longer at the scene.

The second floor of the structure was reported to be heavily charred.

A house fire in the Ligonier area of Westmoreland County forced the evacuation of a family and their pets.

All got out safely from the 1:40 a.m. blaze in the house on Route 711, according to reports on Monday.
