A Stuff the Bus food drive this week in Johnstown and Northern Cambria will enable participants to help feed the hungry in two ways.
Bringing canned goods to the events – from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Randy’s BiLo, 81 Osborne St. in Johnstown, and Giant Eagle, 7 Cottonwood St. in Northern Cambria – will help to fill the shelves at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul food pantry program, Food for Families.
But donations will go further because the event is part of the society’s push during the Feinstein Foundation’s $1 million Challenge to Fight Hunger during March and April.
The foundation, founded by philanthropist Alan Shawn Feinstein of Rhode Island, donates money for every item and dollar collected during the challenge.
This week’s food drive is co-sponsored by CamTran, The Tribune-Democrat, Randy’s BiLo and Northern Cambria Giant Eagle.
The St. Vincent de Paul Society operates two Family Kitchens and food distribution warehouses in Altoona and Johnstown as well as food pantries in Altoona, Carrolltown, Ebensburg, Johnstown and Patton.
