Ex-lawmaker identified as crash victim

INDIANA — A former western Pennsylvania lawmaker has been identified as the victim of a fatal crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike last week.

The Fulton County coroner says 77-year-old Bill Shane, of Indiana, Pa. died after his car ran off the toll road and over an embankment between the Breezewood and Fort Littleton exits. The crash happened about 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

The coroner says Shane died of head injuries at the scene. His wife, Betty, was treated for a broken wrist and other minor injuries at UPMC Bedford.

Shane served as the 62nd District representative in the state House from 1971 to 1976 and also served as an Indiana County commissioner and a borough councilman in Indiana, a borough about 45 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
