Police: Local man waives extradition from La. in death

MEYERSDALE — State police say a Meyersdale man wanted on charges he killed his girlfriend has waived extradition from Louisiana, where he allegedly fled before he was arrested earlier this week.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for Jonathan Beal, 23, who is charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault and abuse of a corpse. Police say he strangled 19-year-old Justine Jackson then buried her body in a shallow grave near the Great Allegheny Passage biking and hiking trail. They both lived nearby.

Beal left Pennsylvania after being questioned by troopers who charged him Tuesday with killing Jackson. He was arrested Wednesday by federal marshals and sheriff’s deputies in Marrero, La., a suburb of New Orleans. Police say he’ll be returned to face the charges in Pennsylvania as soon as possible.
